North Street Senior Residences Opens Doors to New Residents
January 09, 2015
North Street Senior Residences, a brand new Habitat America-managed apartment community in Elkton, Maryland, is officially open and its first residents are now moving in. A senior community in which the head of household must be at least 62 years of age and all other household members must be at least 55 years of age, North Street consists of 53 one and two bedroom apartment homes. Developed by the Community Home Builders, Inc. and the Cecil County Home Partnership, Inc., North Street helps fill a void for affordable senior housing in Cecil County.
Located off of Main Street, North Street Senior Residences is within walking distance to the shops and restaurants of downtown Elkton, conveniently located on the city bus line and close to numerous medical and health services. To promote a healthy lifestyle for its residents, the community has a smoke-free policy and is comprised of many onsite amenities including a cyber café, library, and resident activity center for social events. The building is also equipped with controlled access entry and two elevators, providing one-level living.
Sandy Kendall, Regional Property Manager, believes the new senior housing establishment will benefit its residents and the overall community in many ways. “North Street will provide a viable living community, which will be well-maintained in a spot that has been empty for many years. Activities such as computer classes, internet training, money management seminars and community participation in working with individuals in need will be offered, which will enhance contemporary relationships and grow into new memories.”
Featuring a number of floor plan layouts ranging from 617 – 886 square feet, each apartment includes Energy Star Appliances, vinyl plank flooring in the living and dining area, wall-to-wall carpeting in all bedrooms, window coverings and ample closet space. Handicap accessible apartments are available and up to two small pets under 35lbs are welcome in each apartment home.
All of the apartments are affordable to households at or below 60% of the area median income and rents range from $434-$774 a month. Water, sewer and trash are included in the monthly rent.
